Anzac Day Crafts, Activities & Info

About Anzac Day

ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.  25th April of each year marks the anniversary of both Australian and New Zealand soldiers landing in Gallipoli, the first major military action of the First World War.  Here are some links if you would like to know more about Anzac Day.

In Australia many of us attend a Dawn Service, dawn was the original time of landing in Gallipoli.  Later in the day ex-servicemen and women meet to take part in marches through the major cities and in many suburbs or towns as well.  Commemorative Services are often held later in the day, following the Anzac Parades at War Memorials across the country.

Following are some links to various activities and crafts which might come in handy to you if you wish to teach your Children a bit more about Anzac Day.

Kids Activity Sheets: Trucks

We were at the food shops earlier this morning and our youngest decided that he would like to have a chat with the lady serving us at the check out.

This is about how the conversation went “Truck”… “Truck”… “Truck” until she took notice, and then “Oh, hello, how are you?” from the shop assistant.   “Truck,” big grin.  “Oh, you’ve got a big truck do you?” responds the shop assistant.  “Truck” comes his response with another big grin.    Giggles from the shop assistant…  and a loud “Truck” and a big grin from the little man.  The conversation went on like that from when the shop assistant started putting our food through, and finished only when we walked out the supermarket doors, out to the car.

I found this quite amusing, so I wanted to share.  He tells absolutely everyone about trucks, especially when he sees one from the car window.  So you can imagine what the toy box consists of… yes we have just a few toy trucks, lol, we’ve nearly put a banned on the things he’s got so many!

Today, since I am talking about it, I thought it appropriate to offer provide some links to some good “truck” themed activity sheets:

Educational and Christian Kids Worksheets, Crafts and Activities

In a moment I am going to post some Kids Activity Sheets.  Before I do this I would like to explain a bit about my vision for this weblog.

What I am hoping to achieve is to research and provide parents with links to themed Educational and Christian worksheets, crafts and activities.  I have found themes to be a really good way to enhance my children’s learning experience.  As a parent, it can sometimes be really difficult to find the time needed to think up a theme, and gather some really good materials and resources relating to this particular theme.

“Educational” Themes might be anything from a “Letter of the Alphabet”, to “Space”, to “Types of Birds”, to “Transport”, there are so many – use your imagination.  I will try and provide links to some really good activity sheets on a couple of themes each week.  Sometimes the activities in a whole article will be in relation to a particular age group.  For example, the first theme, the “Letter A” would be most appropriate for children between the ages of 3 and 6.  I will let you know this at the beginning of a post where possible.

In a Church a Pastor, Lay Reader, or Lay Preacher will either select or be provided a theme for worship.  Everything from the Music, to the Sermon, to the Kids Address, to the Drama will stem out of that theme.  Often the theme will be in reference to a specific Gospel or Bible Reading.  I currently assist with the Kids Activity Bags at my local Church, and so will provide Activity Sheets, Crafts and Activities relating to the theme that my particular Church will be covering for the coming Sunday.  Sometimes the activities in these posts will be best for a particular age group.  I will try and provide age group references where I can in these posts.

Hopefully this blog and its content will be really useful to you as a parent, and might provide a base for your children to both have fun and develop their knowledge base at the same time.
