Weather Wiz Kids is designed to teach our kids about the weather, how it happens and why – and offers an array of activity sheets, games and experiments.

Encouraging our children to learn more about the weather is particularly relevant to us at the moment. We are in Queensland. We are safe and well, but have seen the devastation caused by the extensive flooding in Queensland Australia.

It’s not all about extreme weather though! It is important for our children to learn about the rain, the wind, the clouds, thunder and lightening – Weather Wiz Kids helps with this.

Thanks to Crystal Wicker for offering an invaluable resource for our children, parents and teachers!

Awesome play dough recipe - no cooking. Some great uses for play dough in the classroom, at home or for an upcoming event (e.g. trivia night, kids party, baby shower etc).

Found a new resource this evening. I couldn’t seem to be able to locate our play dough recipe so I went looking on the net and found the Best Ever Play Dough Recipe at the website K-3TeacherResources.com. Why you are over there you might like to have a look around – as it looks like a really useful site for teachers and parents alike.

On the topic of play dough try and think creative – as it can be used for many things. Below I have provided a few thoughts and ideas on how you can utilise play dough at home, in your classroom or at events:

Play Dough Pictionary
Google it for more information!

Interactive Story Telling
While telling a story to your children or a class provide them with some play dough and ask them to help you tell the story by making the characters, shapes, objects that are in that story. For example if you are telling a story about the Christmas Nativity then you might have them make an angel, then a star and then baby Jesus. This is great for pre-school kids!

Educational Games
Natural Parenting Tips provides some really awesome play dough games that you can get the children to do – games include Spelling, Memory, Tallest Tower, Shapes and Color Creation.

I’m sure that there are probably even more game ideas if you go looking online – feel free to share them as a comment below.

Happy play dough making!

Acts 2:41-47

I had a bit of trouble locating worksheets specific to Acts 2:41-47 and I decided this week to provide you with the activity sheets in slightly different format.

Leading into this bible verse is Acts 2:1-41. Previously I have posted links to kids activities relating to this bible verse:

The Coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost

Reading from my Good News Bible (Acts 2:41) it says “Many of them believed his message and were baptised, and about three thousand people were added to the group that day.” This bible verse touches on two topics – discipleship and baptism:

Discipleship: The Calling of the First Disciples

Baptism: Sermons4Kids – New Beginnings

Acts 2:42 speaks about the apostles “They spent their time in learning from the apostles, taking part in the fellowship, and sharing in the fellowship meals and the prayers.”

The Twelve Disciples

Then Acts 2:43-47 goes on to discusses the life among believers and how they care for one another . . . which you could relate back to the Vine and the Branches story. Alternatively there is a good sermon provided by Sermons4Kids titled Love One Another:

The Vine and the Branches

Sermons4Kids – Love One Another

Looking at this weeks homiliesbyemail.com children’s lectionary sheets they also seem to fall within this theme. Luke 17:5-6 is about faith and Luke 17:7-10 is about a servant’s duty:

Children’s Activity Sheets – Sunday, 3 October 2010

Have an awesome week! For those who have been hanging out for a newsletter the first one should arrive in your inbox toward the end of the week.

Blessings,
Rachel

In Australia and New Zealand Father’s Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of September.

Following are links to some good Father’s Day craft websites – stuff the kids can make for dad. Also I found some really good Father’s Day themed worksheets:
