Christian Kids Activities: Jesus Appears to the Disciples & Thomas

John 20:19-31, Luke 24:13-50, Mark 16:14-18, Matthew 28:16-20

I find this bible story, following Jesus’ resurrection very fascinating.  The scripture is about Jesus coming and standing among the disciples, even though they were gathered behind locked doors at the time.  One of the twelve disciples, Thomas was not with them.  When the disciples told Thomas what happened on that night he did not believe what they told him.

In order that Thomas might believe the Lord appeared again to the disciples when Thomas was present and they were again gathered behind locked doors.  Thomas felt Jesus’ wounds, and it was only then that he believed.

Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:29 NIV

So according to this scripture, Christians today who have not had the opportunity to see Jesus with their own eyes, but still believe are blessed and happy, and may have life.

Following are some links to kids worksheets and kids sermons that you might use to teach children more about this good news:

Kids Activity Sheets: A Christian Easter – The Resurrection of Christ

John 20: 1-18, Matthew 28:1-8, Mark 16:1-8, Luke 24:1-12

I am going to ask you today to really consider what the focus you and your family really foster during the Easter period?  Do you mainly put the focus on the Easter Bunny and the Easter Egg, or do you and your family take time to remember and reflect on the real reason for this holiday?  That is that our Lord Jesus died for us and in three days he rose again so that we might have eternal life!

I have pondered on what the Lord has done for all of us a good many times (probably more times than I can remember)… it has been know to bring tears to my eyes once or twice actually – when I think about what a huge thing that he has done for us.  He died and he took upon himself all the weight and the guilt of all our sins as his own.  That means he has taken on board the sins of every single one of us; past, present and future.  That’s a lot of sins!  Does this not prove just how much the Lord loves us?

The following paraphrase is normally said at Christmas time, but really it does apply for Easter also – that is to ‘Remember the Reason for the Season’!  I wish to help you today in finding activities, bible stories etc for your children to teach them the meaning of Easter.

Christian Kids Craft Activities – Easter

Last year I was so loving it as Easter approached… I was just really loving and appreciating that our eldest child was really understanding and absorbing the real reason that we celebrate Easter.

On Good Friday and Easter Sunday he sat there in the Church and explained to us what was happening as the drama unfolded.  He asked us some more questions, yes, but he pretty much knew and understood the story and reason behind Easter – that Jesus suffered and then died on the Cross for us, so that we could be forgiven and be saved.  That the Easter Egg is to symbolise the Tomb, and that cross symbol on the hot cross bun reminds us that Jesus died for our sins.  I feel pretty special when I stop for a moment to think about it.

I have put together for you today, a list of links to Easter Craft Ideas that have been put together with the Christian Celebration of Easter in mind.
